Be warned! If you venture to "Kelly ghost town" unless equipt with an oxygen sensor DO NOT venture into the mines! The area is monitored by private security who was very forward about not trespassing, you are free to hike around and explore but according to the security every so often people "go missing" and many (not all) are found in the mines succumbing to lack of oxygen! Side note 1, if looking north at the turn around or dead end into kelly ghost town, walk approximately 400 yards then head into the weeds in a north east direction ⚰️ be respectful! Side note 2. There was a moderately successful musician, Jim Sullivan who disappeared while staying in the town of Soccoro (1970's ish) his music is pretty good and ironically he released an album called, U.F.O shortly before he disappeared of the face of the earth! His fans believe he was abducted! My favorite song I's, My UFO. Good jam! Careful out there adventurers!

A confined space can be oxygen depleted by steel rusting, steel oxidation aka. rust. Then there's H2S caused by organic decay, it is second in lethality to what they use in the gas chamber.
we lost two mining inspectors to H2S, went into what DiDN't look like a confined gas space, and they were wrong. This is in an area of BC Canada with AGRESSIVE oversight of mines and related activity, secured areas. I can't imagine in "freedom fry" states what dangers await.
I hope you did have permission to use your metal detectors on private property as you stated.
